Earners of the FIMC® credential have advanced skills in classifying medical data from patient records, generally in a clinical setting. These coding practitioners possess expertise in the ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS Level II coding systems. They are knowledgeable about medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology. They are able to review patients’ records and assign numeric codes for each diagnosis and procedure. They can apply policies for access and disclosure of health information. Examination

Each FIMC certification candidate is required to pass an examination that consists of multiple-choice questions that measure comprehension of the body of knowledge (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and Speciality coding).

The FIMC is a professional who understands the standards and principles of Medical Coding auditing and the auditing techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating and reporting determining a quality, adequacy and deficiencies. The FIMC analyses all elements of a Medical Coding system and judges its degree of adherence to the criteria of industrial management and quality evaluation and control systems.

The fellowship is geared toward people currently in the medical field who want to advance their careers by understanding the specific rules and regulations with medical coding. In recognition of the increasing complexity of medical coding, particularly with respect to the accuracy, precision, the fellowship training has been organized to provide experience in the multidisciplinary training, supplemented by an intensive program of didactic lectures, webinars, seminars, and formal coursework.
